Haverfordwest County 1 – Cardiff Metropolitan University 0

Owain Jones scored a terrific second half winner for Haverfordwest County against Cardiff Met at the LHP Stadium, Carmarthen, under lights on Friday night.

The last four league games between these two sides have finished in a draw, this was another tight game with Tony Pennock’s men edging victory for three crucial league points.

Haverfordwest County are currently third in the table just two points behind joint leaders Penybont and Cardiff Met.

Early stages Eliot Evans fired a low drive from outside the box which flew past Zac Jones’ post.

Kyle Kenniford played a clever through ball for Jacob Owen who struck his shot across the face of goal.

Midway through the first period the Bluebirds lost skipper Corey Shepphard who picked up an injury and was replaced by Harri Owen.

Archers’ Roscrow missed a good chance to put his team in front, inside the box the striker struck a firm shot over the crossbar.

Kenniford released Ben Ahmun down the left, the striker cut inside before he unleashed a curled effort which missed the target.

Lewis Rees struck a first-time shot which flew wide of Zac Jones’ goal, just before the break Owain Jones ambitious 30 yard effort beat Alex Lang but agonisingly crashed against the crossbar.

Ten minutes after the interval the Bluebirds grabbed the winner as Lee Jenkins made good ground down the right and his well weighted pass into the box was met by a superb Owain Jones strike.

Minutes later Watts struck the post as the Bluebirds continued to press , at the other end Zac Jones pulled off a decent save to deny Lewis Rees’s direct free kick.

Jacob Owen was foiled by Lang from a one-on-one with the Archers’ goalkeeper, also Jenkins struck a first time effort which again Lang dealt with.

Late in the game Chris Craven curled a shot inches over the crossbar, that’s the closest the Archers came to equalising, but overall, on the night the Bluebirds were good value for their win.
